. S H O P . W I N D O W . The Draper's Window
There was a fabric shop just up the road between the flower shop and the general store. It was a joy as a child to see the windows ever changing, dressed with drapes of patterns and colours. There would be the odd ornament and vase of flowers, a print or two and signage in large graphics. I used to read that window as if reading a storybook, eyes darting from left to right absorbing all the details, alongside the anticipation of opening the door and seeing all the rolls of fabrics high up to the ceiling. Everything had a place, florals, stripes, cottons, furnishings and fashion. There was a tower of threads that moved through the colour wheel and boxes of zips and braids and buttons.
