A Rare and Very Beautiful Antique Large Sampler - Hand Embroidery and Hand Made Lace Border (two)
Oh my days my heart skipped a beat when I discovered these samplers. (there is another currently in the shop too). The central hand embroidery work is embellishing a black velvet panel which has been suggested to me that it is possibly late 18th century/early 19th century and may have been a section of a table cover of sorts. This has then been used to form a central panel that has been placed within a hand made bobbin lace border. I've taken lots of photographs for you to browse.
The panel has been framed at a much later date than the embroidery work was made. Although the frame is arts and crafts in style and made from pressed/carved wood it seems to be more sixties/seventies in style. Please note that the frame has marks and knocks here and there.
The frame is approx 94cm x 52cm and is quite heavy in weight.
The frame is glazed.
