Perhaps a reason we cherish older objects is because they can reflect our lives and loves and passions for 'the day', 'the year'. They soften and wear, collect marks, and hold their own stories that we can continue.  When we appreciate an older piece, we learn to appreciate time itself. These pieces hold layers upon layers of little experiences, with contributions from all those who have owned these objects before us. The bond we nurture is important.  It ensures these pieces will be present in our lives for some time, a valued friendship, a friendship of decoration.
