Exquisite Old Floral Reclaimed Needlepoint - No.4

I acquired a small collection of needlepoint panels on my travels, there are more currently in this department too. I have kept one for myself to recover a stool I have.  I bought them from a lady who said that her grandmother had embroidered them as a gift to her mother for her new home.  Can you imagine a complete set must have taken a year at least.  

These wonderful examples of domestic needlepoint are just wonderful to find as they are still so durable and after a gentle light wash they can be used to recover a stool or dining chair.  The reverse of these are beautiful too and I recently saw someone who had recovered a footstool using the reverse so the design became abstracted and it made the stool look quite modern with this twist in use.

This particular design has been executed in a wool based thread and is heavy wearing.  In fabulous condition for age.  After the panel was complete with stitch it was eventually positioned in the seat of a chair but as you can see the chairs were hardly used hence the fabulous condition.  The threads where exposed to natural light have altered colour, this may freshen slightly after a gentle soak.

Widest and longest points of the needlepoint area measure 41cm x 40cm.  These measurements are up to the stitch end and does not include the linen edges.
