Staffordshire Pottery - Floral Clock Tower

A lovely old special piece of collector's Staffordshire pottery depicting a beautiful clock tower decorated with flowers, goats and a lovely bird perched to the top.  The turrets has holes to give the impression of an old pastille burner (original Victorian way of scenting a home), however this is complete at the back with no opening for a burner to be placed. 

The potteries copied the designs of the old burners from old early 1800's designs and reproduced them in the mid 1800's but with closed backs. Hence the opening and detailed holes in the turrets.  Beautifully hand painted in pastel hues on a milk white glaze base.  There is wear here and there and there's a chip to the glaze at the bottom centre on the reverse, I think this is more from the propping of the earthenware in the process than a damage mark.  Still in good structural condition and very lovely as an ornament (see photograph).

This piece is mid 1850's - 1870's.
