Very Old Hand Embroidered Reclaimed 18thC Silk Fragment - No.5

Sold Out

The most precious and rarest of finds.....

Earlier this year I purchased a beautiful boudoir silk cushion from another textile hoarder.

Exquisitely hand embroidered in silk but the cushion was imperfect to quite an extent in structure.  The cushion I imagined would have rested in the most prettiest of bedrooms either on a bed or chaise lounge.  It has taken a while to rescue this panel as it was attached to a layering of printed ground cotton and underneath that were a trillion of feathers. I have sat patiently for hours over the last month to rescue and preserve this silk panel.

The silk is the finest of quality, a delight to touch and the embroidery is laboured and beautifully executed in satin and stem stitches.  It has faded in colour on the right side and as the reverse was protected it is still holds the original tones and palette..

Based on the style I would suggest that this panel sits between an age of 1750/1780.  But if you think I am wrong please do let me know.

This would be just perfect to frame and preserve for a lifetime.   I have left the panel in the shape it was when removed from the cushion.  Can you believe that this was the reverse of the cushion, the front will feature in a future collection at some point this year.

The size of the panel is 22cm x 17cm
