There is a quality to old paper that can't be captured in todays production. It is a long running addiction of mine to always be bringing found ephemera back to the studio from my travels. As fabric, it is time that makes the surface more delicate, and the edges soft and worn. I love how the papers tone changes in areas and there's marks from a journey travelled.
Here is a beautiful etched portrait that has been coloured with washes by hand.
The engraved portrait measures 15.5cm x 21cm dating to the early 1800's
The paper is slightly creamier than shown in the photographs.
